Testicular Implant Surgery — Restoring Lost Testicular Presence and Appearance
Patients who have lost fullness in the scrotum, regardless of the reason, often chose to explore treatment option available to re-create the full volume appearance of the testicular genital area. Though testicular implants do not restore the function of lost, removed, or damaged testicles, the change in appearance can provide the physically alterations and psychological support to restore sexual and masculine confidence.

Testicular Implant Prostheses

Unlike scrotal fillers, testicular implants provide a life long solution to testicular enhancement. Presently recognized are two types of testicular prostheses; Silicone and Saline.

  • Saline Testicular Prostheses: Available in 4 sizes, the implant is molded of a silicone shell approximately 0.035 inches thick. The implant silicone skinned implant is filled with saline during the time of the surgery, prior to implantation. Secured in position, the saline implant provides a natural appearing, sensitive to stimulation, treatment option yielding successful results.
  • Silicone Testicular Implants: Like the saline implants the silicone implants are available in 4 sizes. Highly polymerized silicone prostheses consist of a framed envelope of resistant silicone elastomer. Prefilled, the silicone implant is also placed in the scrotum cavity and secured into position.
  • Testicular implant surgery may be performed during the same surgical procedure requiring the removal of the original testicle. It is often preferred to perform the implant following the immediate removal of the testicle as the implant may then be sutured to the gubernacular remnant and placed naturally into position. For implant procedures post-removal and recovery, scar tissue and contraction of the scrotum occurs which may result in a more challenging placement of the implant(s).

    What to Expect

During the time of the implant surgery, the patient will not experience any discomfort. Following the surgery mild discomfort is common as pain relieving medication is prescribed along with antibiotic (to fight any post-operation infection) allowing the majority of discomfort to be managed. When leaving the surgery center, patients will be unable to drive themselves home, arranged transportation must be scheduled. Bandages surrounding the area of operation will be in place and suggested to remain in place for approximately 5 days. Each surgeon will have a care instruction information sheet/packet, review and understand the packet prior to the date of surgery.

    Average Time of Recovery

The average recovery time for testicular implant surgery is dependant on the activity. Most individuals are able to return to normal activities within 2 weeks. During the first few days following surgery, it is recommended to have assistance while recovering. Meals and activities will be challenging as the operation site will be swollen and tender, while pain medication and antibiotics may impact wake and sleep schedules.
Some activities may be restricted (such as sports) for up to a month and may require protective and supportive attire be worn.

    Complications

As with every surgical procedure there is risk of complication. The most common complication is infection at the site of the incision. It is possible for the formation of scar tissue surrounding the implant to occur which can cause hardening of the testicular area. Choosing to undergo surgery is a serious decision; there may be complications unique to the individual situation. Consulting a specialist regarding the concerns and possible complications is advised.
